Problem grass in St. Augustine
ERM – posted 15 May 2005 19:00
We have lived in our home for 4 years now and previous owners did a great job of maintaining the lawn. Over the years, I have a problem grass encroaching the St. A which I thought was Bermuda. There is more of it every growing season and it seems to take off anywhere the St. A gets stressed by traffic, etc. I have been told that St. A is dominant over Bermuda and I always fertilize with Scott’s Bonus S weed and feed which I am told will help kill Bermuda. This problem grass has thin narrow leaves like bermuda and has a 3-4 in. sprout with 4 or 5 short “antenas” shooting off the sprout. It seems to have deep roots, as it’s difficult to pull up. Can anyone ID this competing grass and give advice on how to eradicate it? I’m in San Antonio, TX. Thanks in advance for the help!
