Newly Laid St. Augustine Sod

I see that overwatering can be a serious problem for St. Augustine. I have had new sod laid in my backyard and was told to water every day for three weeks. This seems to be working in the areas that get a lot of direct sun, but the areas subject to more shade have a lot of thatch patches and irregular growth. It’s been about two weeks now, should I start cutting back on the watering and if so, how much?
