I have had Emerald sod down for 10 days now. Can I use a granular herbicide like Scotts Turf builder w/ Plus II or a spray such as TrimecPlus for grassy and broadleaf weeds?

Miscanthus, you should hold off on postemergence herbicides until the sod is well rooted. That’s being cautious, just a blanket statement, and there may be plenty of exceptions where it is okay. Beyond any possibility of injurying the Emerald zoysiagrass sod, there is the bigger issue that right now you don’t know if there could be other problems developing, and if you risk injurying the grass at this critical time, it will be hard to sort out what did it.

Same thing for fertilization, in my opinion. (Others will disagree with me on this.) In my experience, new sod comes luxuriantly fertilized from the sod farm, and even if not, it needs a chance to get some roots in the ground, before it can effective take up the fertilizer, anyway.

Seed, thanks for the info. the sod has been down now for two weeks and it appears well rooted. I do have irrigation. Also, I purchaed the sod at half price because I knew it had bermuda in it. Can you give me some advice about using Fusilade II at this time of year. I am in jackson, MS. Nutsedge is also coming through the cracks andI want to spray it with manage. One more question. I have heard that Ronstar is safe for new sod because it does not root prune. thanks for the help.
