New sod has yellow spots after first cut…

I don’t understand this logic. I had lush dark green sod and after living in my new house for three weeks the grass was needing cut really bad. The lawncare company came out and finally cut it and now there are patches of yellow all over the place. It looks terrible. I talked to the guy who cut it and at first I thought maybe it was cut too short but he said because the grass was getting so tall that the new grass underneath wasn’t getting any sun. He said that the yellow spots will turn green again but I am not buying it because all that grass seems pretty brittle. Any opinions here? Thanks

Location?Type of grass?How much watering did you do for the first few weeks?Chemical or organic uses?

If you have Bermuda grass, your lawn guy is most likely right. Bermuda likes to be short and is not a shade grass. If you let it grow too tall, only the top of the grass will be green and the bottom will brown due to lack of photosynthesis. Mow regularly and keep it shorter. It will green back up. Water deeply and infrequently and water in the mornings, not late in the afternoon or night.
