New Lawn woes

Hello Everyone! I’m new to this board but after reading for a while, this looks like the place where I can get some answers. I just put in a new hydroseeded lawn and a sprinkler system here in Massachusetts about 3 weeks ago. I am noticing that most of my lawn is up, but I am seeing what looks to be like weeds growing all over the place! Three leaf weeds? I am also watering for two hors…5A-7A and again for two hours in the evening from 6P-8P…20 minutes each zone..I have six zones. Am I watering too much…installer of irrigation system says no. Also, what is “contractor’s” grade seed? I assumed it was an all around seed. Last week I overseeded my new lawn as right after it was put down it rained for days and I lost a lot of seed from runoff. I’m wondering if the weeds came from the “contractor’s” seed I put down from Home Depot. What do I do to get rid of the weeds?
Thanks for your help!
Robert.

Robert,Robert, Robert,Contractors seed blends are usually +80% Annual ryegrass and another small precentage of Bluegrass,Fescue and/or Perennial Ryegrass. Ready yourself to overseed in the fall. Late August/Early September is best. You will need to pick out a good seed for your situation, ie: shade vs.sun, sand vs.clay, Traffic vs. good looks, ect. I would watch applying any herbicides now. The turf is too tender just yet, you may go into the summer withoout any weeds or turf if you apply something now. My suggestion to you is to stop the evening watering now. Extend the morning watering if needed. and water deep and infrequently. The best time to do it is now when your roots are going down. Keep the soil a little on the dry side. Also, Get a soil test to see exactly what you are dealing with in terms of soil structure.
Good Luck and Take Care………..

Hello!
Thanks the advice. I have been doing some reading online and weed and feed is out of the question for a new lawn. I’m almost ready for the first cut (maybe another week or two). I’ll wait till fall and apply an organic weed and feed like “Wow!” from Gardens alive I think.
Good luck!
Robert
