New lawn – sprigging w/Vaughn’s Hybrid Bermuda

I am in Northwest Tennessee and getting ready to start my new yard (5 acres). A friend recommended Vaughn’s Hybrid Bermuda. He said it can be sprigged, since it doesn’t come in seeds. Has anyone heard anything about this type? I know local farmers use it for hay, it comes up quick and is beautiful. Do you have a suggestion?

Vaughan’s hybrid is strictly a pasture grass and is very good at producing quality hay. It is not suitable to be used as a lawn grass if you are wanting an excellent quality lawn. 419 bermuda is widely available in your area. It is very affordable and provides a very high quality lawn. 419 is only available in sod or sprigs. Tifsport, 328, and Riviera also are very good cultivars. I am in your area and would be glad to help if you have any questions.

Thanks so much for the info. on the Vaughn’s. I can use all the help I can get. I have been a fescue person for 15+ yrs. and always fought the bermuda. So this is going to be a totally new experience.

I plant when the ground is 70 degrees consistently? What seed per acre ratio? What sprig per acre ratio?Do I fertilize at the same time?
