nematodes in St. Augustine lawn?

After three weeks of deluge type daily rainsdead spots averaging two feet diam are appearing in our lawns. I have seen one 3-inch long nematode scurrying across the surface of the lawn. Very fast critter. I always thought nematodes were microscopic root suckers. This critter had appoearance of a common angle worm but pointy-sharp on both ends, and fast like you wouldn’t believe. Appearance of lawns and blades of grass are exactly like the conditions shownin Mary’s very good pics.Question: Do nematodes of the 3-inch varietyalso cause lawn problems? I have St. Augustine and live in the Orlando area. Pete

Probably a skink – definitely not a nematode. Check for grubs and chinch bugs.
