I need to apply some fertilizer to my lawn in the next few weeks. This is what I plan to apply – http://www.scotts.com/index.cfm/event/ProductGuide.product/documentId/3aca0c85a42d98cb64485dfd637fd1b8 – If I apply this now to my Bermuda, when will I be albe to try and plant in my bare spots? I would like to get my bare spots covered this year but am I too late? I live in the Upstate of South Carolina so we still have warm until the end of Sept. I guess my question is, will this harm new seeds being planted? If I do seed after I apply this, will the Winter guard harm the new growth when I put it out at the end of the season? Any help is greatly appreciated.

When seeding bermudagrass you are aiming to place the seed in soil no deeper than 1/4″ and soil temps need to be above 65 deg. F. This will no be a problem in July/Aug. Bermuda should be emerged for at least 60 days before a killing frost. As for fertilizer in bare spots, use products containing low amounts of nitrogen so you are not fertilizing weeds since bermuda is small seeded and slow to establish in the first two weeks of growth. Follow up with a nitrogen fertilizer when stolons (above ground runners)are 1-2″ long. Good luck……..
