Mowing New St Augustine Sod?

Mowing New St Augustine Sod?

I layed Raleigh St. Augustine Sod about two weeks ago and was wondering when I should mow it for the first time? It’s starting to get pretty long. I don’t want to wait too long because I’ve read that if you cut too much off of it then it could damage the grass.

I’m also having a problem with Nut Sedge (Nut Grass)? Any suggestions about how to get rid of it? Will it damage my Sod?

Thanks.

Go ahead and cut the yard. Just don’t take more than 1/3 of blade off. Might want to raise mower to highest setting and take off just a little. Then cut tomorrow one setting lower. If grass is real high might rake or catch the clippings the first time.

Sedge will not hurt your yard but it looks ugly. Buy a bottle of Manage ($13-$15) and spot spray the sedge.

i believe image is the product for purple netsedge which if they have st. augustine it’s going to be purple nutsedge, not yellow.I’m also concerned about using any herbicide on sod that’s this new. can homeowners buy image? certainly not pro strength.

I actually bought some Image for my Nut Sedge problem from Home Depot. It says, “DO NOT apply to newly planted, plugged, or sodded turfgrass” It says to only use on an “established lawn” How long until a lawn is considered “established”?

Has anyone used this product? How well does it work? It says that it takes up to five weeks to kill the Nut Grass. That sounds like a long time.
