Hi guys,

I recently (4 months ago) put down empire zoysia in my yard and it is the best looking and thickest yard in the neighborhood. I am cutting at 2 inches with my Hustler 36″ walk behind that does a pretty darn good job. However, that isn’t good enough for me . I want to mow it even closer, so I bought a 20″ McLane reel mower. I have seen many pics of empire zoysia being cut around 1″ and it looks great… that is the look I want. However, my McLane reel mower max cut height is only 1.25″. Does anybody who has a McLane reel mower know how to modify it where it can cut a little higher than the 1.25″ max cut height? I’m sure 1.25″ will be ok, but I just don’t want to totally scalp the whole yard.

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated in helping me achieve a little higher cut height. I will post what my zoysia grass looks like now in a few minutes.

Hopefully the link below will show a link to my current empire zoysia.

Hi, I was wondering how your mclane reel mower worked out? I also like the look when it’s cut lower. I now have a Toro recycler mower. It scales some parts when it’s cut to low.Tru cut makes a reel mower that has swivel wheels on the front. It’s about double the cost of the mclane.I’ll make the investment if it does the job.
