Late Season Turf Issues?
jss – posted 20 August 2006 12:29
Why is it continually necessary to raise my height of cut starting in late July. Every year it seems that I can start out low but regardless of how often I cut, the turf tends to start looking bad unless I raise the HOC. In May, June, and mid July my turf looks like an Augusta National fairway then something goes wrong. It appears over thick. I cut at 11/16th until I am forced to raiseit .I am very puzzled. I have a Tru-Cut 25″ reel mower with 7000sf of bermuda 419. Any help is appreciated.

I’m in the Fort Worth area and have Tif328, I’ve had it about 25 years, about 7000sf. I water nightly. We’ve been over 100 degrees, 38 of the last 40 days and my grass is begining to show the heat, but I have not changed my cutting height. I would aerate and water, water and water a bit more. You can get hand aerators at amazon.com, they are made by Lewistools.com and cost about 30 bucks each, A spiker and a core type are a good investment. What do you think of your tru-cut mower, how do they compare to mclane’s?

No comparison in my opinion if you go with the Tru-Cut commercial version with the GX Honda engine.
