Does anyone know of how to kill my centipede grass that has strated to completely take over the top layer of my St. augustine that I just spent 6k installing 4 months ago?!!!
I read that a fertilizer high in Phosphate would help….And also have read that I should nopt water as much as I do, and that may help as well. But I really have no idea. Now I am worried that over winter I will not be able to get rid of the Centipede and will have an even bigger problem next summer!
I read that several people prefer centiped over St.A. But in my area it is not thought of highly. No one has it by choice that is.(North, Tx. Rockwall/Dallas area)Please help!

Are you sure you’ve got Centipede? It loves sandy, poor, acid soils. In the metroplex there are rich, black alkaline clays predominantly.
I don’t know of any product that selectively kills centipede however Fusilade will kill Bermudagrass in St. Augustine so I guess you could try that.

You are right. It is not centipede. Turns out it is a raging infestation of young crabgrass. It is absolutely everywhere on my new St. Augustine sod. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I am told that nothing can be done except to let the winter kill the crabgrass and do really good pre-emergent treatments.
Any ideas???Thanks,Cody

You’re in luck then. Relax and let winterkill off the crabgrass. Put down pre-emergentby March 1 for next year’s crabgrass. (Youcan also put down pre-emergent in the winterfor winter weeds.)
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
I am from the north and it has taken me five yrs to learn and undertand seville lawns. No 1…
