We live in Rome, Georgia and our home is just now ready for sod. Is middle to late October too late to lay Zoysia sod. What are the negatives? If not now, when would be the optimal time?

Check out the “too late to lay zoysia sod?” topic below. I would wait until May to lay zoysia sod.

I read the too late for zoysia, but I spoke with several landscape companies and they all told me that it would be no problem to lay the sod in october. Now, maybe because they want the business now, but what are the complications associated with laying zoysia sod in october in Georgia?

Sod is a pretty major expense, so I wouldn’t take any chances. If you have a mild winter, you may avoid substantial winter kill. But the problem is that nothing will take root between now and dormancy and any damaged areas will be very slow to fill. Technically speaking, this leaves you vulnerable to bad stuff.

I put zoysia down last year at the end of October. With a 120 pound dog running on it all winter it got a little raged on the edges but by mid summer it look good, all filled in. I also live in Atlanta
