Installing Bermuda and Zoysia in October

Is October too late to install bermuda and/or zoysia in Atlanta?

I had mine installed in September 2004 in Marietta. I was worried about it, but I read that it can be laid down all year.

The only problem is hurricane Ivan came through about a week after and we got maybe 10 inches of rain. I was staking down the sod with landscape stakes during the deluge. Some of the sod washed down the hill and I had to put it back.

I think it will take root any time of year, whether it is dormant or not.

I looked in to this a bit more and Walter Reeves says it can be a problem if newly laid sod gets hit with a hard freeze. But he seems to be saying it is frequently done. It’s supposed to be a warm winter.

It’s not worth risking your investment. Wait til the spring. Even if successful, its going dormant quick, so you won’t appreciate the sod.

Just wait, I would if it was my money.
