Hello Lawn Enthusiasts,
I would like to take a little and very informal survey. Ive read a few times here on this forum not to seed warm season turf (Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede…). Im curious to hear the results of those of you who chose to seed. If you could, please provide the following:
1. Type of Grass
2. Method of Seeding (broadcast, hydroseeding .)
3. How Long it Took to Germinate.
4. How Long to First Mowing.
5. Cost Compared to Sod.
6. Overall Satisfaction.
7. General Comments.
Thanks to all of those who reply.
Brad

Bermuda

Broadcast
3. How Long it Took to Germinate.
Years
4. How Long to First Mowing.
n/a
5. Cost Compared to Sod.
High, since it didn’t germinate.
6. Overall Satisfaction.
Dis-satisfied
7. General Comments.
I don’t mean to be glib, but my experience with seeding Bermuda is nothing but frustration. If you want Bermuda, sod is the way to go.
FWIW, I looked into hyrdoseeding and it was as expensive as sod… ??? Made no sense to me, I’ll take the sod and free inch of fill dirt that comes with it.

Tom,
Thanks for replying. Im sorry to hear about your bad experience with seeding Bermuda. No germination? That is bad, Id be upset as well. I wonder if you got hold of some old seed or something. Ive had seed I spilled in the back of my truck germinate. I cant imagine having seed actually planted in the ground not germinate, but Im happy to hear that sod worked out for you. Hydroseeding costs the same as sod?? Usually, hydroseeding is about 1/4 to 1/2 the costs of sod (delivered, not installed). In any case, good luck with your Bermuda, its a beautiful grass.
Ted,

Im not in the business of selling hydroseeding, but I do offer hydroseeding as an option to those who would rather not pay a ridiculous price to have a lawn. I dont try to sell anything to anyone. I only inform them of my service, product and price and if they choose to use me thats great, if not thats great to. Thanks for your input. I have learned quite a bit from reading your answers to other peoples questions. Its people like you who a willing to share their knowledge that makes these forums so valuable.
Thanks,
Brad
