Indentation in Emerald Zoysia

I have emerald zoysia sod installed in August doing pretty good until yesterday.I had a tree cut down and a limb left and indentation about 4feet long and 5 inches wide and about 2 inches deep. Am I better off filling it in with sand or topsoil? I do not want to peel back the sod since the roots are pretty new.Thanks..

I’d fill it with top soil. Where are you located? It might take a while for the zoysia to fill in since winters here.

Thank you mrmumbels….located 25 miles south of Atlanta. Frost last week kind of browned things up a little. Will probably wait til spring and fill it in.

I had the identical problem in Emerald zoysia. I waited untill the growing season and each week or 10 days, I put about 1/2 ” of soil in the indentation and when that grew in, I repeated the soil application. Took about 2 months, but recovered nicely. You can’t fill it in all at once – – the grass will die.
