Identifying types of St. Augustine

We have purchased a home with a large yard of St. Augustine grass filled with a variety of weeds, clover, wild “flowers”. We have no idea what type it is, but have been told we must be careful about applying herbicides, etc. to St. Augustine. We also heard there is another kind of grass which looks like St. Augustine and is easier to maintain. We don’t know how to tell what we really have. Can you please help us?
