How to water and care for new lawn

We just layed St. Augustine sod on Friday. Can you over water it in the first 2weeks?? It’s been hot with no rain. We’ve been doin 3 times a day for 15 min. Also, is it necessary to stay off it while it’s getting established or does it help to step on it to make contact with the underlying soil? We have a black Lab outdoors. He’s not a puppy running all over it but he does nap on it. Thanks for your reply. I over watered my St. Augustine in Corpus and it got fungal disease. We’re in Boerne now and I don’t want to make the same mistake.
