How to create Runners for Bermuda

Ok, forgive me, but I am new to lawn care. It’s funny as soon as I got a house, I really want my lawn to look nice, hehe.
When I moved in, no one had ever taken care of the lawn before. I have killed a lot of the weeds, except the St Augustine from the neighbor’s and several types of Crab grass. I used the MSMA and now I have large spots of dead weeds throughout my yard. I also have large spots of dirt in the back. I used some sod in a few parts of the dirt, but that can get expensive.
My real goal is to have an okay lawn this year, but a beautiful lawn next year. What is the easiest way to create lots of runners from the sod of bermuda or other bermuda around my lawn?
Thanks for your help

You can get a skinny irrigation shovel and dip plugs out of areas in your yard that are estabished – and then spread the plugs around in bare spots. You can also buy a few rolls of sod and do the same thing…..cut the sod up into many pieces and plug bare spots. Also keep the area well fed and watered to force more lateral growth.
