How long to mow

I just laid Tiff 419 sod, it’s now a week old, how long should I wait to mow it?

Sod can be mowed the day its layed, but it sounds like the ground might be a bit too soft to mow in your water logged situation. Wait for a two day dry spell and then mow. 419 (because of its upright leaf) is often mowed at one inch, so you could possibly let it get to 1 1/2 before having to mow. If you want a shorter cut, you may have some scalping take place at first, but the turf will recover. Once you are in a more normal weather (and mowing situation), twice a week mowing will be necessary if you want to cut below 1 inch.

So it will be o.k. to mow it down to 1/2 inch on the first cutting with my reel mower?

The way it looks now, 2 dry days might not happen for a while.
