How do I get St. Augustine out of my Bermuda yard?

Howdy,
I live in North Texas and have a couple of small patches of St. Augustine in my yard. This happened after a landscaper (unsuccessfully) dug up a strip of St. Augustine sod the previous owner had installed under a shaded area. The local TAMU extension office says I have Common Bermudagrass. I use a rotary mower and have an irrigation system. I have read more posts than I can count on various sites. The best I can glean from them is basically to mow shorter and water less to select against the St. Augustine. But some have said that still may not get rid of it. Can anyone provide more information or suggest anything else I can do?
Much thanks.

you could pull it if it’s not too big of an area. thats the best way without damaging any of the bermuda. i dont recommend round up.

Thanks.
The larger patch is about a 4×4 foot area.
– Does St. Augustine only spread through above ground runners?
– Will mowing it really short (about 1 inch) also help slow it down?

MSMA will do the trick. It will also kill all the broader leaf grass type weeds and won’t hurt the bermuda. I mix one tablespoon of MSMA per gallon in a sprayer. It may take two or three applications about 4 days apart.

im not sure if mowing it low will help. i mow mine pretty low(i only have a little on the side of my house),and it does not seem to phase it. msma, or pulling it are your two best options..my 2cents
