help deciding on new lawn in Central Florida

ok.. It is time, or almost time for my lawn project(s).
This past winter I installed a nice sprinkler system for full yard coverage and threw out rye for a good looking yard during winter.
I am down between two grasses: Bermuda & St. Augustine (Floratam).
Just can’t make up my mind.. I really like the look of sports fields ( usually bermuda )and the softness of the grass. I really like the looks of a well maintained St. Augustine.
1) What are advantages / disadvantages of each?2) Prep work for the yard ( yard is NOT perfectly smooth and level and is pretty compacted.. )3) which is more fit to survive without total babysitting. ( ie. which is gonna die first. )
I am looking for a nice green thick yard that will withstand a child.. I currently mow with a 42″ lawn tractor, what would I need to properly mow either grasses?
Thanks.
MikeBTW, this is in Central Florida
