grass turning white

I live in South Central South Dakota. We have had cooler than normal weather this spring, and very little rain. I have been noticing that the grass on the north side of my house, right up close to the house, is turning white. It looks almost like it has been misted with a white spray paint. I can scratch the white off and see a green blade of grass underneath. Any ideas on what this could be? I have not noticed it ever before, nor have I found it in any other area around my house.

I have had the same problem with my grass blades turning white. Any idea on how to fix this problem?
