grass is turning purple

I planted a pennington mixture of mohawk, transcontinental, and sahara. It was planted about 3 weeks ago. It came up green and looked fine, now it is about a ½ inch tall and turning a dark purple color. Is this normal? I applied 13-13-13 and lime when I planted it and 13-13-13 again about 5 days ago. So is it dying? Or is this purple color normal. The leaves are still soft and alive. I had a few mature sprigs that the stems are purple on. Thanks Warren

What’s the pH of your soil? Never lime unless a test indicates the need. It may have locked up the fertilizer and the grass will starve in soil with plenty of nutrients. Fortunately time will likely resolve the issue which might be due to cool soils this time of year.

I would never use pennington seed. I personnally have had nothing but problems with thier products.Try using another brand of seed next time.
