fertilize in wet condition?

I live in Houston, Tx. I have St. Augestine grass and I would like to fertilize this week.(with granular high nitrogen fertilizer). However, it has been rainy recently and the ground is saturated. Will this make a difference if fertilizer is applied? Also, after fertilization what is the rule for watering the grass? Immediately, or should I let it stay on the ground for a day or so? Thanks in advance!

I called Scotts 800 number yesterday. They said it was fine to water or if it rained right after, water activates it. About it being wet now… All I read was it should be dry when putting it down

Don’t put the fertilizer down when the grass is wet. The fertilizer will stick to the blade and will cause the grass to burn. Wait for the grass to dry and then fertilize and water it in.

Of course Scott’s will say go for it! If it rains enough for the water to run-off, so will the fertilizer wasting fertilizer and polluting the water, and the nitrogen will leach thru the soil faster. I’d let the soil dry out a bit.
