Evergreen Magnolia Tree

My magnolia tree is sick. It has a dripping wound, it is black, it smells bad, and it bubbles. It looks like the wound that mature male elephants get next to the eyes. Unfortunately, this wound is not exposed to the sun at all, what makes it difficult to heal. I tried to brush it gently with water. It only cleaned the tree but it began dripping immediately. This is a very old tree, may be 30 ft tall.Does anybody know what is this? Help.
