Empire Zoysia nightmare
mwhite125 – posted 27 March 2005 10:51
Hello everyone, first post here;Well I just got 4 pallets of empire zoysia, tilled the back yard up, and leveled it out..Recieved the grass saturday morning then we got rain for like 10-12 hours straight, and now my back yard is a mud pie!! Im thinking if I put the rest down the sod down it will cover the water soaked soil and rot my roots and eventually die. The sod was harvested Friday, and I recived it Sat. morning(3/26/05)..It’s supposed to be in the upper 70’s monday and tuesday, will the 3 pallets of mostly dormate zoysia be alright to put on Tuesday or not, that would be around 5 days after harvest sitting on the pallets…thanks

i think you’ll be ok- how long do you think it normally sits around at the dealer???

Well the dealer I get sod from cuts it the evening before its delivered, so its real fresh, have read everywhere that it needs to be laid ASAP..

true ,but in the realities of the sod growing and installing business it’s anything but a perfect world…..

aint that the truth.

just keep the sod wet and wait until the ground dries up- it ought to be ok.

What is status? I think I would have gone ahead and put out the sod. From my personal experience I found that empress zoysia actually does best if you immerse the sod for 15-30 minutes in water and then plant.
