Diseases during dormancy

I have an empire zoysia yard that looked pretty decent last summer but this spring there are lot of brown dead spots that did not green up. The dead grass is easily racked out and the rhizomes are brittle and dry. Is there any bugs/diseases to look out for during the winter. Im in VA Beach btw

Tough one…….did you water your zoysia even during dormancy? The reason I ask is it does need water, the areas in my yard that are thin after spring green-up are the areas the sprinklers lightly cover during the winter.
Just my thought. There are certain billbugs that affect zoysia, but those can be sprayed for rather easily.
