I need someone to help me. I seeded a yard with fescue and Dallisgrass is taking over. I know that MSMA will kill it, but it’s not very good for fescue, because it can damage or kill the grass. I need to know of another chemical to use.

frenchman, the University of Georgia’s Dr. Tim Murphy presented some data on MSMA control of dallisgrass in tall fescue. (Is it tall fescue that you have, not fine fescue?) http://www.cropsoil.uga.edu/weedsci/slides/fescue/ Two to three applications of 2 pounds active per acre MSMA gave 70-100% control of dallisgrass. Tall fescue appearance was about the same after 2 applications, compared with untreated controls.
There are some cautions, including not to use it above 90 degrees, and because it contains arsenic, a heave element, there are concerns of what happens in the soil.

Followup: I see that in your earlier post you said you seeded the tall fescue. If that was done this year, make sure it is sufficiently established before spraying it. Do a test strip before spraying the whole lawn.

Seed
I was interested in your post that refers to arsenic as a “heave element.” What’s that?
I look forward to your response.
