WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDATION ON CUTTING NEW ST. AUG. SOD? IN OTHER WORDS HOW LONG SHOULD IT GET BEFORE CUTTING FOR THE FIRST TIME?

I’m not one of the experts, but here’s what I’ve read:You can cut as soon as it’s rooted; 7-10 days, though it can take longer. Try pulling up a piece first. Err on the side of waiting, especially since growth should be slowing down this time of year, and the first cuts can be longer. Height partly depends on the cultivar of St. Augustine, but for Floratam: while establishing use a 3″ height (leaving that much); for maintenance, 2″. Areas with more shade can be cut a bit longer; in the winter a slightly reduced height can help in cold tolerance, if that’s an issue. And never cut more than 1/3 of the length off at a time, and make sure the blade is sharp. Good luck!
