Crabgrass problem?

I have a lot of crabgrass in my backyardMy fertilizer company suggest me to do a round-up to kill the crabgrass, then put new sod.

But the round-up takes 10 days, and the sod company tell me that I do not need to do the round-up, they will basically remove the crabgass and dig the soil a little bit, and then put the new sod.

Should I need do the round-up before place the new sod or not? The round-up takes about $60

You don’t really need round up because the crabgrass is about to go away on its own……(it dies in the winter.) It will however leave seeds in the soil which will sprout in the spring. Apply a weed preventer(such as- ‘Scotts halts’) at the end of March. The sod will bury most of the weed seeds, but some will still try to come up through the seems.

any pre emergent, ie. pendemethelin, benefin, trifluran, etc. will help to prevent it next year. maake sure you have it out before the average soil temps are 50 deg. if you are a little late dimension has some post emergent control as well.

if you have a tolerant grass, MSMA will also get rid of it.
