Crabgrass

I live in central florida and have crabgrass taking over in areas of my backyard. I used Image to kill off some nutsedge and also sprayed on crabgrass although there was little effect even after repeating. So I sprayed some grass/weed killer on the areas of crabgrass and plan on cleaning up and pluging the areas. Any opinions? I heard something about baking soda, has any body had any luck?

I heard about baking soda from county agents in Florida (third hand, so who knows). And there is a product on the market that seems to rely on baking soda.

Moisten the crabgrass and dust it with baking soda. Apparently it turns black in a day or two. Don’t know about regrowth.

Also, it seems to work best in the South.

Check you soil PH, if you are plugging in Burmudagrass it will tolerate a slightly higher PH then crabgrass thus helping give you burmudagrass a little bit of an edge. You will still need to treat the area also. If you can handle a total kill in the area that may be an idea as well, round-up becomes inert once it interacts with the soil and will not effect your plugs after the area has dried compleatly.
