Controlling/eliminating argentine bahia
fish22 – posted 22 June 2009 13:01
I have about 3 acres in central Alabama. About 2/3 of it is argentine bahia. It is murder on mower blades, and w/our drought situation, it remains the most prolific of anything green.
I sweep up the clipings, and hopefully most of the seed pods, but it is so prolific, it continues to come back.
Short of using Roundup, does anyone know how I can control its growth, eventually wiping it out.

trade name – Manoractive – MetsulfuronI don’t know what your desired turf is, but it’s labeled for most all warm season grasses

Thanks. I’ve never heard of Manor. Can you tell me where to get it? I’m going to try Vantage, but at $22.50/pint and 3 acres to cover this could get quite expensive. However when considering how often I’m having to replace mower blades, maybe one day it will pay off.
Also, maybe the Manor will give as good or better results, if I can find it.
Again, thanks.

you’ll get much better control out of Manor than you would out of Vantage on bahia.and yes, the cost/A will go downI graduated high school in central Alabama, but I am not sure about chemical distributors there….see if you can find a John Deere Landscapes(formerly Lesco)
