bumpy lawn

My lawn in the front and the back yard has silver dollar sized dirt mounds that are about 1/2 tall. They cannot be seen when viewing the lawn, but you sure can feel them when you walk on the lawn. The little dirt mounds are loosely packed and can be separated easily. What is causing these things? Is my lawn in danger?

They are quite possibly caused by earth worms.
