How can I repair these spots or keep them from getting worse.

Read some past threads, this topic has been covered MANY times. There is no way to prevent dog urine from killing grass, there is a way to prevent dog urine from coming into contact with grass.
You housetrained your dog, your dog knows that it’s okay to pee outside and not okay to pee inside, now, you have to lawn-train your dog. Pick a spot that you want your dog to pee on, trees work very well. Keep the dog on a leash and reward him with food and praise when he pees in this spot only.
It’s easier to modify a behavior your dog already knows than to get grass to do something it’s not biologically capable of doing, that is, surviving a deluge of dissolved nitrogen. Grass cannot be trained.
Good luck,Katie
