I have black mold looking substance where I may get a little too much shade. What can I use to kill this stuff. I have used standard Scotts Fungicide granuals but this does not seem to work.

Is the “black mold” on the turf or on the soil/thatch below the turf? Sounds like algae to me (if its on the soil) If it is algae, watch you are not over watering in these shady areas. Spiking will help but not cure the situation. A great fungicide to use is Mancozeb. Many trade names available…..Call Lesco and see what they have……
Good luck……..

Yes, the “Algae/ Blaack Mold” is on the soil.
I have a sprikler system and I will quit using it to avoid these areas. I think I will take the tree out too. It is a Sweet Gum and makes a big mess in other ways to.
Thanks for the advise!

Dave, The sweetgum tree is a messy son of a gun. Only young boys like the spiky balls. Did you know there is now a plant growth regulator that can be injected into the tree, in spring, to prevent the balls from growing? I heard about it last spring and was contemplating adding it to my program.Do you think other homeowners would pay for a service like this? Cost on each injection is about $8.00.
Good Luck with the algae and as always….
Take care

Never heard of this injection. You probably could sell it. In my case I just need to get rid of them and the shade.
Thanks for the info….
