Bermuda sod growth over gravel?

I recently had french drains installed due to standing water problems in my backyard. The builder replaced the Bermuda sod but he placed it directly over the gravel where the drains were installed. I was told that the Bermuda sod will be able to grow and thrive over the gravel since it would bury below the gravel surface eventually. Is this true? If not, the sod was just placed the day before yesterday so I have time to perform maintenance before the sod starts to die. Please, any advice is welcome.
