I have had St. Augustine for years and tiny spots of bermuda occasionally. I was told to spray the bermuda with concentrated Roundup WHEN THE ST. AUGUSTINE WAS DORMANT. This has worked for me. Early, early spring bermuda greens up first, so I spray then. Any I miss has to wait until next spring.

It seems risky to spray Roundup on dormant St. Augustinegrass to kill green bermudagrass. In my experience, St. Augustine can be green when the bermuda is brown, therefore I think this treatment is only as good as the accuracy of the spraying.
There is a 3-step springtime treatment for bermuda in St. Augustinegrass, and it involves two sequential applications of Prograss+atrazine followed by Prograss alone. The results are at best “control or suppression,” because it may take multiple years of treatment to achieve serious effects, and in hot weather the St. Augustinegrass may be so injured that it will not recover to compete with the bermudagrass.
