Bermuda a leper?

I’ve been reading the postings and it seems as if everyone considers Bermuda grass a WEED. I live in the D/FW area and at least 75% of the lawns are Bermuda of some sort and they look beautiful. Is it because it goes dormant. It’s the only thing we can get to grow around here during our two seasons. That being hot as hell and hotter than hell.I am about to put in a new lawn and would love to here any input. Thanks Grassdummy

Howdy,
If I had my way, I think I would definitely choose Zoysia over Bermuda, however, when I bought my house it had Bermuda and I’m not going to try to change it…
There are many educated people in this forum who know a lot more than I, but my experience with Bermuda has been excellent. Apparently you can’t kill Bermudagrass, and with a little care it will become a thick / dense lawn. I’ve started cutting mine shorter this year and my neighbors are stopping and asking me how I manage to have such a nice golf course look. 🙂
I guess it’s all about personal preference.

Cultivated bermuda is a great grass. Wild bermuda is an annoying weed.

I would suggest doing some research. Bermuda is a solid grass. It does have some problems with insects and diseases depending on the variety selected. I guess what I’m saying is look at your varieties and their strong and weak points before deciding. Also look at the maintenance costs associated with it.
