‘Tifeagle’ bermuda is the latest “craze”, but it requires a lot of attention to thatch removal-(low mowing, verti-cutting, and or topdressing with sand). One of the older varieties of bermuda,(such as ‘Tifgreen’or ‘Santa ana’) are more suited for home use, but they still require a lot of thatch control. Bent grass will give you a smoother surface for longer periods of time with less thatch control….but its not as tough as bermuda otherwise-(needs more water, fungicide, and likes good soil). Many good varieties of bentgrass seed are available on-line. And you can order bermuda sprigs or sod- from a local sod farm in mid April.
