Yellow Streaking

Hello, my name is Charles and this is my first post to this forum. I live in the panhandle of Florida next to Pensacola and I’m having some problems with my new St Augustine yard. I have very little knowledge so please don’t assume I’ve tried the easiest fixes first. The yard was sodded in Jul ’06 and I doubt the builder took much care in laying down proper topsoil before the sod. I started noticing thinning spots a month after it was sodded and now they have turned into bare spots. There is also yellow streaking throughout the yard and I’m worrid it will have the same fate if I can’t fix it. I used to water almost every day and just recently reduced it to twice a week. I just put down some fertilizer to try and green up the yellow spots. I have included a picture below and I can post more if needed. I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks!

the best thing to do is have a soil sample taken. this will tell you exactaly whats wrong, and can eliminate un-needed procedures.
