Is palmetto suseptable to fungus?

I live in Fort Lauderdale and when it rains heavy for a couple/few days straight the swell in my yard can stay saturated. My soil drains relatively fast unless we get those heavy straight days of rain. If I plant palmetto St Augustine will it be more prone to fungus and if so will it grow back if I spray it or will I have to replace it.
