chickweed in Fort Myers?

A new weed appeared in my Fort Myers lawn last winter and is starting to take over my yard. I’ve looked through weedalert.com and the only weed that looks right is chickweed.

It spreads with runners that can root at nodes. The runners mostly lay on top of the established floritam but can go underneath as well. The weed adapts to short or tall mowing and seems to thrive during both winter (70 and dry) and summer (90 and wet). The soil is typical South Florida topsoil (appears to be a mixture of swamp muck and sandy soil).

Does anybody know what this weed is and how to get rid of it?

went back to the weedalert place and went through the entire alphabet. There are two other weeds that could be it.

Khakiweed and matchweed. The description says matchweed forms a mat and khakiweed grows prostrate. It seems to me that if you let this weed go long enough then it does both.

Please post a photograph. Otherwise just a guessing game.
