St. Augustine w/ Dallisgrass
scosio – posted 20 September 2004 07:47
Hi all,
First time post here…
I have a front lawn here in North Texas of St. Augustine and lightly scattered with patches of Dallisgrass.
What’s the best way to get rid of the Dallisgrass without harming the lawn?
Also, the same applies for the backyard but, instead of St. Augustine, it’s Bermuda grass.
Thanks in advance.

I’m kinda bummed that no one responded to my question.
Was it too elementary? Too difficult? I don’t know…I’m a novice when it comes to lawns.

it’s slow this time of year- i would wait until the spring- i would like to positively id the “dallisgrass” might be something else- at any rate, i wouldn’t be using herbicides on warm weather grasses that are getting ready to go into dormancy.

Yes, it is Dallisgrass. Looks just like this:

yo steve,
you have two choices here, either spot spraywith roundup (glyphosate) & live with thedead spots until the bermuda creeps across them, or spray msma (monosodiumetharsonate)asa spot spray only , several applications will be needed, & this one only does well during the hot summer months….otherwise, get your shovel out & dig ’em out.
good luck!
