Initial Laying of Seville Grass
RobD – posted 17 November 2003 15:26
I laid Seville St. Augustine grass one week ago. Does anyone know if the grass should lighten in color while it is initially rooting? I have a few white spots here and there that I am wondering are normal. Also, do little gaps that were created when laying the sod fill in as the grass grows?
Thanks so much,Rob

New sod will lighten in color after the first few days in most cases, only because it comes from the farm full of quick release fertilizers that the grass is using up. As for the gaps, this happens because the individual pieces of sod shrink as they dry out. I don’t usually fuss over such a thing. It’s generally not something you can see after a couple weeks, just something you can feel walking across the lawn and it does usually go away after time.
