how aggressive is floratam mixed with bahia?

I live in south florida and have just layed down strips of floratam sod about 5 feet apart from each other. The question i have is how long is it going to take for the floratam to take over the bahia? At first, I was told it would take over during rainy season but now I hear it may I was told it may take a year or more. My lawn looks like a football field now and I am concerned about it maybe never taking over the bahia. The reason I did this is because my new neighbor did this on his new house and I thought maybe ill do the same so I copied him.thanks for your help.
