My yard is being taken over by a vine type weed. I haven’t ID’ed it yet but, I am told that this stuff is difficult to kill off. Please assist with suggestions and URL’s.

Thank you.

Go to Weed Science Society of America home page at http://www.wssa.net/index.html and see if you can find the culprit. Give me an ideal where you live and what type of turfgrass is involved and I’ll try and help. Just need more information

I think what you may have is called vine weed. You probably have a grove of trees or forest nearby that gave it to you.

It cannot be killed unless you get on your hands and knees and pull every single last one of them up. Then you might have to burn down all the forests around you. I think it flourishes more in shade. Check to see if that is correct.

I have heard it called stink weed too because of the smell – but I do not think that name is a proper name for what you have.

Your only choice is, spray the whole area with a complete killer like Roundup. You may have to do it a couple of times to be sure you have all the roots – and I mean all.

Then grow your grass and set your mower at its highest setting – 6 inches, if it goes that high. Water like crazy to speed up the growing – – – even environmentalists will let you do that. If they don’t, tell them to hang their nose over your lawn and take a deep breath. The oxygen they just inhaled is by courtesy of your lawn – not just your trees

After it is up and healthy you can settle down to a legal watering schedule.
