My 3 year old lawn is mostly common bermuda with some large patches of hybrid throughout. I would like the entire lawn to be hybrid. Is there a way to to encourage the hybrid bermuda to overtake the common or will I need to re-sod everything? Thanks

Spray 'Round up' on the common areas and then take plugs from the hybrid and spread them around the dead grass areas. The hybrid will usually fill in over 2 or 3 months- depending how close the plugs are placed. Fertilize monthly to make the grass spread even faster. You can dig the plugs out with a normal size round shovel, and fill the holes with the soil you remove to make room for the plugs in the dead common. Make sure the bermuda is actively growing before you spray! After you spray, wait a week and then cut the grass short to expose bermuda runners. Re-spray the area to get a good kill. Contrary to popular belief, green bermuda runners WILL absorb Round up. The first spray usually doesn't kill all the runners and rhizomes.

Thanks! I live in North Alabama. When is the best time to spray the roundup? I was thinking mid-April. Also, when I do plant the hybrid plugs, should I spread any topsoil/sand around around the area?
