I have recently applied Round up to a section of lawn to kill invasive weeds. When I removed the top layer of dead growth, I noticed some of the roots were still alive. Should I apply another application of weed-killer? When the weeds are killed, what is the best way to prepare the soil for replanting. I was informed by an “expert” that Round up must be soaked into the soil, or the chemicals would kill the grass shoots, I am unsure if this is valid advice. I live in Southern Ca. and the aforementioned section of lawn in is partial shade- High temp. In summer approx. 100, low temp. in winter 30. I typically plant this segment with a deep rooting Fescue.

Read the lable on the roundup, it will tell you what you need to know on how it kills the weedsand grass. you do not soak the ground.

Water the area you sprayed for a few days and when you see anything growing spray again.

you can spead some dirt, or you can power rake the yard to make a fine seed bed. then plant your grass.

Round up only enters the plant through green leaf tissue. That is why it will not work on scalped down turf and on dormant turf. Wait a few weeks and see what comes up. Then retreat the green stuff and your ready to plant.
