What is the best variety of St. Augustine for shade with a couple hours of afternoon sun per day? We have high humidity in the summer. We have fungus all over the back yard that killed our Burmuda with rye overseed! We want to put a sod in that is more shade tolerant, and I like the look of St. Augustine. Can someone give us some advise please. Thanks!

where do u live? palmetto is a good one. www.sodsolution.com

for fungus problem, i prefer to use corn meal (from animal feed store) 20lbs per 1000sqft and 1 cubic yard of compost per 1000 sqft which can be expensive if you have large yard. You probably can get away with well made compost tea maker. Google for Deuley’s Texas Tea Brewer which supposedly is very good stuff for the price. I paid around 20 bucks to build one that will brew 4 gallon of compost tea which supposedly is worth as much as 1500 bucks of real compost (if you do it right).
